Thinking About Relocating to Texas? What You Need to Know About Dallas–Fort Worth
Welcome to Texas!
If you’re considering relocating to Texas — specifically the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex — there are a few things you must know before you make your move. I’m Stephanie Deeds, broker and owner of Point Realty, and after helping countless families relocate to North Texas, I can tell you that your experience here will be shaped by much more than just the house you choose.
The Shocking Size of the Metroplex
Let’s start with a fact that surprises just about everyone:
The Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex covers over 9,000 square miles, stretching across 13 counties and more than 200 cities and towns. That’s bigger than some entire states!
So when someone says, “I’m moving to Dallas,” that could mean living in Frisco up north, Burleson down south, Weatherford out west, or Rockwall to the east. Each of those is part of DFW — but they’re completely different experiences.
Why Commute Times Matter
Because the area is so large, commute times are a big deal. A drive from one side of the Metroplex to the other can easily take an hour — and that’s without traffic. During rush hour, even short trips can stretch much longer.
That’s why it’s so important to think beyond just the house and consider the daily drive to work, school, or even the grocery store. Mapping out your commute ahead of time is one of the smartest things you can do before making your move.
A Lifestyle for Everyone
One of the things I love most about DFW is how diverse it is. No matter your style, you’ll find a community that feels like home:
-
Small-Town Charm – Places like Midlothian and Waxahachie have that “everyone knows your name” feel.
-
Western Heritage – Fort Worth is where the West begins, with cowboy boots, rodeos, and the iconic Stockyards.
-
Urban Energy – Uptown Dallas and Deep Ellum are buzzing with nightlife, restaurants, and arts.
-
Upscale Suburbs – Frisco, Southlake, and Highland Park are known for luxury homes, shopping, and top schools.
Every pocket of DFW has its own personality — the real challenge is finding the one that best fits your lifestyle.
Football Isn’t Just a Game
Here’s another thing you’ll notice quickly: football is part of the culture here. Friday night lights bring thousands of fans to local high school games. Saturdays are for college rivalries. And Sundays? Sundays belong to the Dallas Cowboys.
If you’re new to Texas, you’ll quickly see that football isn’t just entertainment — it’s a way of life and a huge part of community spirit.
The Bottom Line
The Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex is big, diverse, and full of opportunity. But it can also feel overwhelming if you don’t know the area. And that’s where having the right guide makes all the difference.
Who you work with matters.
If you’re considering relocating to DFW and want more guidance on making the move, my team and I would love to help. We know the Metroplex inside and out — and we’ll make your transition smooth, exciting, and stress-free.
